What is the mission of World of Good, Inc.? World of Good, Inc. was formed on the belief that it is possible to harness capitalism and market forces to create positive social change and alleviate poverty. World of Good is focused on making it as easy as possible for producers, retailers and consumers to make choices that positively impact their livelihoods, businesses and lifestyles respectively.
Who founded World of Good and why? World of Good was started in Berkeley, California by Priya and Siddharth, two friends who graduated from the University of California Berkeley Business School. Priya Haji is now the CEO and was originally motivated to help very low-income women around the world improve their lives through fair trade. Siddharth Sanghvi, who now heads Marketing, had a background in marketing and technology and was excited to build a company and a brand that connects artisans and consumers and through that connection impacts both positively.

The World of Good, Inc. business model is designed to serve all levels of the supply chain and make it as easy as possible for producers, retailers and consumers to have access to products, choices and information that positively impacts their lives.
What is the relationship between World of Good and eBay? World of Good and eBay have partnered to build WorldofGood.com – an eBay Marketplace that connects producers and consumers through and educational, fun and convenient shopping platform. World of Good, Inc. has licensed the World of Good name to eBay for the marketplace because together we are building a marketplace that will help many thousands of producers and get us one step closer to achieving our mission of alleviating poverty through commerce! What is Original Good? Original Good is the new product brand from World of Good, Inc. When we licensed www.worldofgood.com to eBay, we made a decision to rebrand our product line to distinguish our line of handcrafts from others on the new online marketplace. Where all of our in-store product tags now say World of Good, they will eventually be replaced by the name Original Good. This brand is owned entirely by World of Good, Inc. Our in-store kiosks and displays will continue to be named World of Good, thus continuing to connect our retail partners to a globally recognized brand for fair-trade handmade crafts.
How do World of Good & Original Good products help women around the world? Sixty to seventy percent of the artisans making fair trade handcrafted products are women. Often these women are mothers and the sole wage earners in the family. A lot of these products allow the women to work on a very flexible schedule and to capitalize on the limited resources at hand e.g. they can make beautiful crafts from grass and twigs (woven baskets), dirt (clay pots), and from trash (recycled bottlecap purses!). Through their work in Fair Trade craft production, women not only improve the lives of their families, but improve their own lives as well. Many women artisans report that their work has given them self esteem and the opportunity to participate in decision making in their communities. Increased income ensures better nutrition, better schooling for their children, and an improvement in housing and living standards. One of the biggest challenges these women face is gaining access to larger, more stable consumer markets. World of Good serves as a bridge for these women to connect with retailers and consumers in the US.

How does World of Good actually help these organizations? After we screen the organization and their practices and accept the producer group as a partner, we focus on working with the producer group according to fair trade principles.
How do we tell customers about all this? It is really important for us to share the hope and excitement of these special handmade items with your customers. Every World of Good product has a distinct story tag that tells the reader about the producer group and any special characteristics of the product. The kiosk display and other merchandising material are also designed to help tell the story. We also offer additional detailed information on our website where customers can learn more about our producers and products. On the wholesale website you can also download posters and other support materials that you can put in your store to explain the products.
